Robert W. Whitley

Obituary: Robert W. (Doc) Whitley, age 74, surrounded by his son, grandsons, wife, daughter-in-law, and sister-in-law stepped into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at his home after suffering a lengthy illness. He was born December 30, 1939 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Crayton D. Whitley and Pansey Clyde Robinson Whitley. Doc was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, as a weaver for many years until the mill's closure. In early years he was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Concord, NC where he worked with the Boy Scouts. He was a friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob and so many close friends that came from that relationship. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by four brothers, Julian Whitley, Talley Whitley, Bill Whitley, and Spencer Whitley. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Concord, NC officiated by Rev. Keith E. Brown, Jr. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 P.M. Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, prior to going to the church for the service. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, LeDonna Christy Whitley; his son, Robert W. Whitley, Jr. & wife, Kelly of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Braden Whitley, Justin Whitley, and Crayton Whitley. The family would like to say a special thanks with love to Dr. Garry Schwartz for the wonderful care that he gave during Doc's illness.
