Obituary: Robin Kester Sutherland, 57, of Kannapolis, NC, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Carolinas HealthCare System - NorthEast in Concord, NC following a brief and unexpected illness, surrounded by her loving family and closest friends. Born April 26, 1959, she was a daughter of Joan Kester of Concord and the late Mel Kester. Robin was born in Charlotte, NC, and grew up in Concord, graduating with the 1977 class of Concord High School. She attended UNC-Greensboro, where she received the award for design of the school logo. She was also on the UNC-G women's tennis team. She was a partner/artist at the family owned gift shop "Kester Three" in Concord. She most recently worked as a Master Griller for Wafflehouse on Lane Street in Kannapolis, where she had many loving friends, co-workers and loyal customers who will miss her hospitality and quick wit. In addition to her mother, Robin is survived by her four children, Rebecca Ruehlen, Nyal Ruehlen, Eric Ruehlen (Juliana) and Alexander Ruehlen, all of Concord; Sisters Melanie Canup (Scott) of Mt. Pleasant and Paige Gesing (Bernie) of Charlotte, brother Eric Kester of Roanoke, VA, and neices Ashley Hanson (Laura) of Kannapolis and Allison Brumbles (Don Peadon) and family of Huntersville. Robin will be greatly missed by her close friends Marlene Johnson and Corkey White, co-worker Belvin Funderburk and manager Gwen Helms. Family will have a gathering of friends Tuesday, August 30, from 6pm to 8pm at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis.
