Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Roger Lee Blackwell, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at his home after two years of declining health. He was born on September 22, 1944 in Morehead, Kentucky, the son of Bernice Turner Blackwell of Concord, NC and the late Marvin Lee Blackwell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1964 to 1968. In earlier years, he worked for Western Electric and BellSouth. In later years, he was employed with the Kannapolis Police Department for 18 years attaining Communication Supervisor before his retirement. He was an active member of Solid Rock Worship Center, Kannapolis, NC where he took an active part in the church's puppet ministry which he thoroughly loved. He also loved fishing and hunting as special hobbies. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 5, 2014 at Solid Rock Worship Center, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Raymond Davis. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM Friday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Pamela Hartsell Blackwell; his son, Mason L. Blackwell of Mt. Pleasant, NC; his daughter, Carla Blackwell Clay of Concord, NC; three grandchildren, Jabriel Yusuf, Devin Blackwell, and Dalton Blackwell; his mother, Bernice Turner Blackwell of Concord, one sister, Sue Blackwell Query of Concord, NC; and one brother, Talmadge Blackwell of Concord, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Solid Rock Worship Center, 3000 Centergrove Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
