Roger D Connell

Roger D. Connell, 77, of Landis, passed away at his home unexpectedly,Wednesday morning, April 21, 2021.

Born October 7, 1943, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Bob and Katherine Overcash Connell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Greene Connell and a son, Eric “Shawn” Connell.

Roger had been a truck driver most of his life. He was a hard worker all of his life, often working two jobs to support his family. Roger was also a gifted and talented musician.  He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, performing and had written and published numerous songs over the years. He enjoyed a strong cup of coffee, reading and loved watching old westerns and country music shows.  Roger deeply and dearly loved all of his family and his church family. He was a  loving and devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend of many. Roger never met a stranger, had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

Family members include his children, Kim Corum (Roger) and Alan Connell; his brothers, Robert (Jean) Connell and David (Zelda) Connell, his sister, Shelle Alsip (Jim); grandchildren, Alisha Mathis (Chip), Brandon Chappelle and Cryssie Mitchell (Matt); his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Allison, Sabrina and Luke Mathis, Soraya and Zynley Mitchell and extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, April 26th at Whitley’s Funeral Home.  Funeral services to remember, celebrate and give thanks for Roger’s life will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor Terry Cruse. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
