Obituary: Roger Dale Soots, 63, of 4950 Miami Church Road, died at CMC-NorthEast on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 after 7 years of illness. Roger was born on October 22, 1949 in Cabarrus Co. the son of the late Robert Franklin Soots and the late Cleo Marian Byrd Soots. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Soots and a granddaughter, Jessica Dwyer. Roger was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving as a MP in Saigon with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Big Lick Baptist Church and co-owner of R & G Construction. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 P.M., today (Friday) March 22, 2013 at Big Lick Baptist Church in Oakboro, NC conducted by Rev. Jeff Springer. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall after the service. At other times, they will be at the residence. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Troutman Soots of the home; two daughters; Misty Dwyer of Concord and Brooke Foster (James) of Oakboro; grandchildren, Jordan Dwyer, Haley Dwyer, Matthew Foster and Brandon Foster; 4 brothers, Larry Soots, Richard Soots, Ralph Soots and Robert Soots, Jr. and a sister, Joyce Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to his church: Big Lick Baptist Church, "Relay for Life", 626 Big Lick Road, Oakboro, North Carolina 28219.
