Romell (Weaver) Ritchie

Romell Weaver Ritchie, 70, of Mesa, AZ passed away in Mesa at Banner Desert Hospital on June 12, 2023.

Romell was born in Salisbury, NC on November 11, 1952 to Ila Mae Pritchette and Robert Edward Weaver. She grew up in Landis, NC, graduated from South Rowan High School, and attended Appalachian State University, earning B.A. and M.A. degrees.

Romell married her high school sweetheart Barry Ritchie on June 10, 1973. Together they had two wonderful children, Rebecca and Lee. Their family moved to Mesa in 1984. Romell worked at many places, including State Printing Company (Columbia, SC), Arizona Senior World, and as a sixth-grade teacher in Mesa Public Schools. However, Romell’s main focus was always being a wonderful wife, an amazing mother, and the best Mamaw two precious grandsons ever could ask for.

Romell is survived by her husband, Barry; sister, Daisy Mae Rodgers; brother Jimmie Weaver (wife Modena); daughter, Rebecca Ritchie Derr (husband Matt); son, Lee; and grandsons, Nathaniel and Samuel Derr. Romell was predeceased by her parents Robert and Ila Mae Weaver.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow and begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Carolina Memorial Park.
