Obituary: Kannapolis, NC Ronald Earl "Fundy" Funderburk, born September 10, 1945 passed away on July 15, 2018 at CMC-NorthEast. Ronnie was a 1963 graduate of A.L. Brown High School where he was a standout athlete in basketball and baseball. He continued his education at UNC-Chapel Hill, finishing his degree at Catawba College. Ronnie was an administrator of Five Oaks Nursing Center for a number of years and then partowner/plastic industry sales associate for Systematx. An avid sports enthusiast and memorabilia collector, Ronnie especially loved the New England Patriots and Tom Brady, the Chicago Cubs and all UNC teams. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing for local church league and city league softball teams and golfing. He was known for "Djing" from his back deck, accepting shag music requests from passing golfers ("Turn it up!!"). A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Gene Edwards. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 PM Prior at Whitley's. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, William "Earl" and Kathryn Ritchie Funderburk. He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Calloway Funderburk "Roid", and fur babies, Skip and Charlie. Also surviving are James Calloway (Linda) of Ocean Isle, Ronald Calloway of Wilmington, Richard Calloway (Janet) of Washington, Stacey and Matt Wadell and Cory and Kathi Calloway, and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Memorials may be made to Catawba College, Office of Development, 2300 W. Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144 and/or American Heart Assoc., 128 S. Tryon Street Suite 1588 Charlotte, NC 28202.
