Obituary: Ronald Arlen Readling, 79, of Kannapolis went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Monday, June 13, 2011 at CMC-NorthEast. He was born May 10, 1932 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late J.U. and Alice Miller Readling. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Kerr. Ronald retired in 1994, after 20 years of service, as Assistant Public Works Director with the City of Concord. He attended Royal Oaks Baptist Church. Ronald was an avid golfer, had a great love of country and gospel music. Ronald was one of the best steel guitar players in the area and was pursued by national recording artists. He played the steel guitar in various local country & gospel bands for many years. He had a great love for classic cars especially his '56 Ford. He loved being with friends and family and loved to travel with his beloved wife Brenda and smoke his pipe filled with Borkum Riff Cavendish CherryFuneral services will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Leon Smith and assisted by Rev. Tom Whidden. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM Thursday at Whitley's.He is survived by his wife, Brenda Helms Readling, 7 children: Denise R. Higgins of Concord, Perry Readling (Nancy) of Harrisburg, Wallace Readling (Amy) of Concord, Bart Carroll (Lee) of Concord, Daphne Honeycutt of Concord, Donna Ensley (James) of Mt. Pleasant, and Jeff Carroll (Lori) of Rockwell, 16 grandchildren: Christian, Patrick, Nikki and Mary Beth Higgins, Garrett and Tanner Readling, Carter and Colby Readling, Kaitlyn Hagan (Michael), Andrew and Alexandra Carroll, Marie and Ethan Ensley, Nicole Dysart (John), Hunter and Hayden Carroll, 8 great-grandchildren: Talyn and Braylyn Phillips and 6 others, his twin brother Donald Readling (Brenda) of Stanfield and his sister-in-law Frances Walsh (David) of Concord.Memorials may be made to Royal Oaks Baptist Church, 904 Texas St., Kannapolis, NC 28083 and /or Alzheimers Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
