Obituary: Miss Rosa Lee Gragg, age 96, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Carriage House of Caremoor Retirement Center, Kannapolis, NC. She was born October 27, 1916 in Buncombe County, NC, the daughter of the late Melvin and Arra Lewis Gragg. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by five sisters, Vernice, Eugenia, Bessie, Ally, and Eveline; and three brothers, George, Otis, and Frank. She also had several nephews and nieces to predecease her. She was retired from Beacon Manufacturing in Swannanoa, NC. Rosa was a present member of Parkwood Baptist church, Concord, NC but her heart always remained at her beloved Swannanoa Church of God. She served as their church treasurer, choir director, Sunday School teacher, and even at times as their custodian. She is survived by one sister, Josephine Fender; her caregiver of seven years, nephew Harold Fender and wife, Wanda along with their daughters, Cheryl and Joyce; nephews, Horace, Charles, and Dean; nieces, Lona, Juanita, Alma, Betty, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Michael Waters and Chaplain Karen Kaser-Oder. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the funeral home prior to the service. Another funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Swannanoa Church of God, Swannanoa, NC officiated by Rev. Ronald Owensby and Rev. Michael Waters. Her body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service there and the family will receive friends at that time also. Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery. The family wishes to express their appreciation to those who so lovingly assisted in her care during her time in Concord. Michelle Bare and Karen Kaser-Oder of Hospice, the staff of Carriage House of Caremoor Retirement Center, Ladies of the Shut-in Ministry of Parkwood Baptist Church, Bob and Muriel Ketay, and our special Doris Deaton.
