Obituary: Rosie Lee Collins Smith, 86, of Kannapolis died Monday, April 11, 2011 at Big Elm Nursing Center following a period of declining health. She was born August 16, 1924 in Carlton, Georgia a daughter of the late Loyd Dayton Collins and Jenny Mae Stowe Collins. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She was employed as a spinner at Cannon Mills Plant #1, retiring after 45 years of service. She enjoyed sewing and was known for keeping a nice home for her family. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Tim McQueen. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from10:00-11:00 Wednesday prior to the funeral service. At other times they will be at the residence. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Henry Grady Smith of the Home, one daughter, Patricia (Pat) Christy and husband Richard E. Christy of Kannapolis, a Sister, Margaret Long of Commerce, Ga. three grandchildren, Kim Morris of China Grove, David Smith of Mt. Pleasant, and Connie Power of Kannapolis. Eight Great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren also survive. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a brother, Odell Collins.
