Obituary: Roxie "Maw-Maw" Clanton Morris, age 81, of Kannapolis died Tuesday November 12, 2013 at her home after a period of declining health. Her funeral will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, Nov. 14 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel with Rev. Chris O'Guin officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Annex Chapel on Thursday Nov. 14 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM prior to the funeral and at other times the family will be at her residence, 1803 Joe St. in Kannapolis. Roxie was born February 9, 1932 in Chesterfield Co. SC, a daughter of the late John L. and Hattie Wilkinson Clanton. She was a long-time area resident and employed for 38 years with Fieldcrest-Cannon INC. in the #1 weave room as a weaver/ weaving Instructor, retiring in 1994. Roxie was a long-time member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church and was active in the choir. She will be remembered as an avid gardener and a good cook. Roxie was the most giving person her family knew and would give up her needs for their wants and she was always thankful. Roxie was a loving and adoring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was loved and adored by all her children and was a great inspiration to everyone she knew. In addition to her parents, Roxie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Morris and her sister, Virginia Woodard and her brothers; Horace, Bill, Lindsay and Perry Clanton. She is survived by her sons; Jerry Morris (Angie) of China Grove, Wayne Morris (Vicky) of Kannapolis and her daughter, Donna Gilmore of Huntersville. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Jeremy, Christopher and Daniel Morris, Logan and Blake Gilmore and by 3 great-grandchildren; Justin, Addison and Brooklyn Morris and many nieces and nephews.
