Obituary: Roy Conard Goins, age 88, of Kannapolis passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health. His funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, Oct. 14 at First Wesleyan Church with Rev. Edwin Crisco and Rev. Scott Bryson officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, Oct. 13; at other times the family will be at the family home. Roy was born September 17, 1928 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Vol N. and Annie Mae Faulkenbury Goins. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brothers, Delmer and Gene Goins; his sisters, Della Morton, Hazel Eagle, Ruth McCall and Willette Wilkerson and his son, Randy Goins. Roy was a lifelong area resident. He attended Kannapolis City schools and was a member of First Wesleyan Church. Roy worked for Cannon Mills in the harness room until he retired in 1995. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching the First Wesleyan Soft Ball Team for 20 years. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Betty Jo Hill Goins, his sons, Chris Goins (Susan) of Kannapolis, Eric Goins of Stoney Point, Trent Goins (Tonia) of Salisbury and his daughter-in-law, Rita Goins of Davidson. Roy was also survived by 3 grandchildren; Marcus, Garrett and Scott Goins, his brother, Harold Goins and his sister, Sarah Hamm, both of Kannapolis.
