Roy Thomas Hopkins, Jr.

Roy Thomas Hopkins, Jr., 81 years old, of Concord, passed away on February 1, 2023.  Roy was born on May 10, 1941 in Rowan County to the late Roy Thomas and Sarah “Maize” Blevins Hopkins.

Roy was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School.  After high school, he joined the US Airforce and proudly served his country for 30 years.  Roy loved to travel and going to the mountains.  He enjoyed gardening, painting, art, and photography.  He also had a passion for food and cooking, especially barbeque.  Roy also liked to build model rockets and launch them with his grandchildren.

Roy was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sylvia Diane Carpenter Hopkins in 2006, his sisters, Pansy Webb and Gaynelle Rush.  Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jennifer Lynn Furr and Melissa Furr Jones; his son, Jeff Eugene Drye; his grandchildren, Autumn Drye, Ashlynn Woods, Alexis Drye, Hunter Christy, Lanie Jones and Garrett Christy; and his great granddaughter, Daisy Woods.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 10-11am at Whitley’s Funeral Home with a funeral service celebrating his life at 11am in the Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel.  Entombment with honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.
