Roy Denver Miller

Obituary: Roy Denver Miller, 86, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 29, 2016 at his residence, following a brief illness. Born December 5, 1929 in Ashe County, Roy was a son of the late George and Sallie Cox Miller. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife Rae Mash Miller; five brothers John, Paul, Claude, Don and Dennis Miller, and his sister Roxie Sheets. The Miller family moved from Ashe County to this area in 1967 for saw mill work. Mr. Miller continued in the carpentry profession, becoming a skilled and talented cabinet maker. A devoted and active member of Central Baptist Church, he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, was active in the church construction, and along with his wife, helped with the youth camp and the seniors group. Family members include his daughter Evelyn M. Shatley; his granddaughters Michelle Thomas (Kevin) and Nicole Haire (Mark); great-grandchildren Kaleb, Alyssa and Kyle Thomas; his brothers Benny (Shirley) and Billy (Betty) Miller; sister-in-law Connie McNeil, and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, December 2nd from 5:00-6:30 pm at Central Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 6:3 0 pm, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Parker, Pastor, and Rev. Lynn Stewart. The family will also receive friends Saturday at Boone Family Funeral Home in West Jefferson, NC, from 12:00-1:00 pm, with a service at 1:00 pm, also at Boone Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at George Miller Cemetery in Glendale Springs, NC. Memorials may be made to George Miller Cemetery, c/o Billy Miller, 636 Glendale School Rd., West Jefferson, NC 28694.
