Roy Wesley Smothers, 87, of Kannapolis died Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at his home after a period of declining health.
A funeral service to celebrate Roy’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 3 at Eastwood Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Saturday.
Roy was born June 16, 1935, in Chesterfield Co. SC, a son of the late John Wesley and Bessie Rollings Smothers. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Humberger Smothers and 10 of his brothers and sisters.
Roy was a graduate of Deep Creek High School in Chesterfield SC. He later moved to Kannapolis and worked at Cannon Mills in Plant# 4 as a loom Fixer. Roy was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan and enjoyed watching him race. He was a longtime member of Eastwood Baptist Church and a devoted prayer warrior constantly praying over his family. Roy was a beloved father grandfather and brother who will be remembered for his beautiful smile and love of his family.
Those who remain to cherish his memories include his children; Kim Childers (Robert) of Charlotte, Tammy Misenheimer (David) of Salisbury and Tim Yost of Kannapolis; as well as 3 grandchildren; Wesley (Somer), Amanda (Andrew) and Ashley, 5 great-grandchildren; Colton, Bryson, Annalyn, Tate and Anabell and his sister, Myrtis McCray of Kannapolis.
