Royce Roland Galloway

Obituary: Royce Roland Galloway, 89, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 9, 2014 at the W.G. "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury. Death was unexpected. He was born May 18, 1926 in Cabarrus County, NC son of the late Eli Norman Galloway and Lottie Artz Galloway. Royce was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, China Grove, a veteran of the US Navy serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during WW2 and retired from Cannon Mills #1 Spinning Room with 45 years of service. Royce was known for his sense of humor, telling folks that he borrowed $2.00 from his wife-to-be for their wedding license 67 years ago and was still paying the loan off. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mabel Louise Watt Galloway of the home, sons, Kenneth Galloway of the home and Donald Royce Galloway, one daughter, Brenda Wilhelm of Sharon, SC, four grandchildren and special friend Wendy Camplin. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Concordia Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Ken Reed, pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
