Obituary: Royce Benjamin Scarborough, 84, passed away November 4 at Concord Place Senior Living. He was born in Commerce, Georgia on January 8th, 1934 to John and Maude Scarborough. Royce held various management positions in the home center industry, including positions with Handy City, Homecrafters, and Lowe's. After retiring from Lowe's in Concord in 1994, he enjoyed gardening, helping with church projects, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Royce is survived by a son, Phil (Karen) Scarborough of Atlanta; grandson, Chip Scarborough of Birmingham, Alabama; granddaughter, Kristen (Justin) Thomas of Claxton, Georgia; great-granddaughter, Caroline Thomas of Claxton, Georgia; great-grandson, John Thomas of Claxton, Georgia; and brother, Melvin (Judy) Scarborough of Phenix City, Alabama. Royce is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Betty Scarborough, his parents and 11 siblings: Bill, Cliff, Eva, Grace, James, Joyce, Margaret, Novice, Robert, Ruth, and Virginia. A visitation is planned for Wednesday, November 7 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home on Dale Earnhardt Boulevard in Kannapolis. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. R.J. Hammond. Mr. Scarborough will be laid to rest with his wife in the mausoleum of West Lawn Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Dementia Society of America.
