Obituary: Ruby Mae Fisher Baker, age 89, passed away on September 29th, 2018 surrounded by her family at her home. Born on March 5th, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Rev. James Edward Fisher and Ella Fesperman Fisher. She was educated in Cabarrus County Schools. She worked in Cannon Mills for over 25 years. She was married to Jimmy Baker for 67 years and they were blessed with five children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. One of the most important things in her life was going to church and teaching her children the importance of family, loving each other and letting God's light shine through our daily walk in life. She was saved in March 1958 at Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church and later attended Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church where her father was the founder and Pastor. She was a dedicated member of Lakewood Baptist Church for 29 years. Ruby continued to share her faith and love of Jesus for the remainder of her life with everyone she knew. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and hymns, especially those sang by her children. She also kept daily prayer journals and throughout her bible she would hand write prayer requests for her husband, sons, daughters and their families, other family and friends, church members and her pastors. She had hundreds of prayers written across her two bibles and many journals and her favorite bible verse was Philippians 4:13. She also enjoyed quilting with her sisters and nieces. Very often you could find them gathered around a quilt rack fellowshiping and enjoying their quilting hobby. Each of her children and grandchildren will treasure the quilt she tailor made individually for each of them, stitched with the sweetest love ever known. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother's Edward Fisher and Jesse Fisher; her loving sisters Dovie Bentley, Bessie Stirewalt and Elsie Foutz; and a great-grandson Cameron Morris. Ruby is survived by her husband, James G. Baker, Sr. (Jimmy); sons James G. Baker, Jr. (Bud) and wife Patty, Danny Baker and wife Ginger; daughters June Morris and husband Tony, Judy Burris, Donna Harless and husband, David; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; brother George Fisher and wife Faye. She is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces who have shown so much love and support during her illness. She is also survived by her precious dog Dynamite, who has loved and protected her for the last 8 years. The family would like to thank Hospice of Cabarrus County, especially Tammy Hahn, Miranda Moss, Julie Hill, Linda Hood and Roseanne Byrne for the compassionate care given to Ruby and for the support given to the family.
