Obituary: China Grove, NC - Ruby Corena "Corky" Hampton Garver of Millbridge Road died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Tucker Hospice House. Born on March 12, 1933, in Rowan County, NC, to Sloan William Hampton and Bertie Bell McDaniel Hampton, Corena graduated from Landis High School in 1951. Corena is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bobby G. Garver of the home. After her husband retired from the Air Force in 1971, Corena began a new career at the Rowan Court House, Salisbury, NC, where she was appointed as Deputy Clerk of Court. She was dedicated to serving the people of Rowan County. In 1998, after twenty-six years of service, she retired as Assistant Clerk of Superior Court . She raised two daughters and a son: Jan Gapper of Waxhaw, NC; Nancy Corriher, and son-in-law, Randy K. Corriher of Aiken, SC; and David K. Garver, and daughter-in-law, Santha Montee-Garver of Charlotte, NC. She cherished spending time with her family, friends, especially, her sister, Gladys H. Snider of Lexington, NC, and her childhood friend, Janie Drye Wynn, of Atlanta, GA. Corena's grandchildren were her pride and joy: Michael C. Hesterberg of Carlsbad, CA; Lauren C. Bouknight and grandson-in-law, Brannon Bouknight of Salisbury, NC; and Kaia Garver of Charlotte, NC. Her nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and their families brought her great joy. Corena's faith and church life were central to her life. She enjoyed many active years as a Sunday school teacher, junior choir director, and member of the adult choir at the military base churches wherever her husband was stationed and at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove. She joined the First Reformed Church of Landis in 2009. She loved her church families, all who were so supportive to her throughout her life and during her long battle with cancer. The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 11 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at First Reformed Church of Landis. The memorial service will follow at 11 AM. Memorial gifts may be made to the building fund for First Reformed Church of Landis, 210 North Central Avenue, Landis, NC; and the new building fund at Mt.
