Obituary: Ruby Hoffman Jones, 84, longtime resident of Kannapolis, member of First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, died Friday, March 2, 2012, at Carolina Medical Center Northeast. Ruby was born April 23, 1927 in Davidson County to Orville Lawrence and Earsley Curry Hoffman. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School and Mars Hill College. After marriage to Ben F. Jones, Sr. in 1956 she moved to Kannapolis. She was a member of the Colonial Garden and Women's clubs of Kannapolis. She taught children's Sunday School for many years. In 2011 Ruby and her husband moved to Gardens of Taylor Glen in Concord. Ruby's greatest joys and loves were her family, home and church. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking especially baking fresh bread and cakes. She was talented and creative, designing many church bulletin boards and household decorations. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Ben F. Jones, Sr. of the home; son, Ben F. Jones, Jr., daughter- in-law, Samantha, and granddaughter, Allison Jones of Switzerland; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Ray Shaw, of Winston-Salem; two nieces, Melinda Toppenberg and Lisa Hooke, and a grand-nephew, Will Hooke. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church Kannapolis on Thursday 8 March at 3:00 pm with Dr. Thomas E. Cabaniss officiating. Beforehand the family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until 3:00 P.M. in the church sanctuary. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main St., Kannapolis, NC, 28081.
