Obituary: Ruby Ketner Lyerly Tesh Martin 98, was called to home on April 27, 2018 at Tucker Hospice House. She was born on September 1, 1919 in Rowan County to the late Bessie Boger and Charley W. Ketner. Also preceding her in death: Husbands: Lewis Lyerly (1945 WWII ), Harold Tesh (tractor accident in 1970) and Harold Martin in 2007. She is the last of 11 siblings to die. She graduated from Landis High School and is the last of her graduating class. Working most of her adult life at Cannon Mills, she retired in her 60's to continue her volunteer work. She worked full time, was a single parent, had a garden and canned. Being a leader in 4- H Club for 50 years, she taught 4-H kids to sew, cook and create demonstrations for competition at local and state levels. She transported 4-H kids to competitions and witnessed their many awards. Beginning in 1976 Ruby volunteered with Rowan Helping Ministry, serving on the Board of Directors, Dial Help and overnight shelter. Ruby was active at Ebenezer Lutheran Church since her birth. Her lifelong desire to be a foreign missionary became a local outreach ministry that spanned most her life. She hosted exchange students, taught Sunday School, youth advisor, Council president. WELCA, and reaching out to the community to feed and clothe children in need. Her signature trademarks were always seeing the good in people, living her beliefs with strong moral character, unselfish giving of time and money, visiting shut ins and a card ministery, and sense of humor. Ruby is survived by a daughter Theresa and husband Don Safrit, grandchildrent Lewis and Patti Safrit, Greg and Charlea Safrit, Great-grandchildren, Lucas Safrit, Hanna,Samuel and Andrew Safrit,Kelly ( Todd ) Kirk, Lyndsay ( Alan ) Tomlinson. Great great grandchildren: Wyatt Kirk, Tucker, Morgan and Tanner Tomlinson. Visitation and services; The Celebration of Life Service will be Sunday May 6, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer's Mrs. Ruby's Pantry, the Organ Fund, or Rowan Helping Ministry in Salisbury. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhom.com
