Obituary: Ruby Elder McGuire, age 92, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at her home. She was born February 15, 1921 in Taylorsville, NC, the daughter of the late Earl Lee Elder and Virgie Bell Deal Elder. She had been a resident of Kannapolis for 78 years. Ruby was a self-employed beautician in the Kannapolis area for over forty years until her retirement. She held her church membership at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis, NC for fifty-eight years where she was also active with the Ruth Class. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Allen McGuire after fifty-seven years of marriage; one son, Steve McGuire; three brothers; and one sister. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Steven Cline and Rev. Steve Beam. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Surviving are three daughters, Frances Ashby and Sharon Bradshaw, both of Kannapolis, NC, and Lavaughn Gainey of China Grove, NC; two sons, Gary McGuire of Chapel Hill, NC and Tommy McGuire of China Grove, NC; one brother, Junior Elder and one sister, Betty Wensil, both of China Grove, NC. She celebrated her life with fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
