Ruby Ora Godwin Newsom, 96, of Kannapolis passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Liberty Commons in Salisbury.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday August 4, at Whitley’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. J. R. Beaver officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
Ruby was born June 11, 1925 in Union Co., a daughter of the late “Marion” and Pearl Edwards Godwin. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Newsom; her brothers, Curtis, Fermon and Van Godwin, her sisters; Ethel Nall, Inez Tarlton and Nell Carpenter and her son-in-law James Quantz.
Ruby was a lifelong area resident and long-time member of Jackson Park Baptist Church. She worked many years for Cannon Mills as a Filling Hauler for Plant #1 until she retired. Ruby loved to play Bingo and travel. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her daughters; Linda Sherrill (Lonnie) of Stanley and Dianne Quantz of Richfield, her grandchildren, Reggie Sherrill (friend, Lesley), Jason Sherrill (Tracy) and Delenia Bringle (Eric), her great-grandchildren, Jake Sherrill and Caden, Jared and Sarah Bringle and her sister, Jean Stegall.
The family of Ms. Ruby wishes to send a “special Thank-You” to the staff of liberty Commons especially the activities staff that showed her love and care and kept her active until the end.
