Obituary: Ruby Pennell Crouch Smith, 84, of Concord died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 5 Oaks Manor.Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 28 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral.Ruby was born April 17, 1927 in Alexander Co. NC, the daughter of the late J. Arthur Pennell and the late Maggie Reid Pennell. She was 1 of 8 children. She moved here in 1947 with her husband, J. Leonard Crouch, who preceded her in death in 1967. They lived in the Blackwelder Park area of Kannapolis and owned Crouch's Curb Market until 1975. She was also employed at Cannon Mills from 1948 until she retired in 1999. She was of the Baptist faith. Her daughters say "If you knew her, you were blessed! If not, it was your loss."In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her 2nd husband, Bob Smith in 2002, her son, Robert Dion Smith, her grandson, Jonathan Taylor Loggans and 3 brothers; Clifford, Frank and Leonard Pennell.She is survived by her daughters; Rheba C. King (Bill) and Patricia C. Loggans (Richard), both of Concord, her son, Dillon Smith of Landis. Her grandchildren are Jeffery P. Stamey II (Melissa), Jason D. and Gracen B. Loggans and Ian and Meagan King. Ruby is also survived by her great-granddaughters; Cadence and Mckenzie Stamey and her brothers; Grady and Solon Pennell of Gamewell, NC and Hayden Pennell of Charlotte and Donald Pennell of Hudson, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
