Rufus Garver

Rufus Reid Garver, 80, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday May 26, 2024 at Novant Rowan Medical Center, Salisbury.

He was born June 26, 1943 in Iredell County to the late Howard Mitchell “HM” Garver and Frances Smith Garver.

Rufus enjoyed being around people and helping them; he didn’t know a stranger. He would often help neighbors with gardening as he loved gardening and was often giving things away out of his own garden.  He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, he also loved shooting guns. He was an active member of Solid Rock Worship Center in Kannapolis, member of the Mopar Club, and a member of the Rowan County Wildlife Association.

He was preceded in death by a sister SyCeleia and her husband John Franklin Kesler.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three children Michael Garver (Gina Wagoner), Ken Garver, Heather Garver Greer (Michael), four grandchildren, Amanda Greer Corriher (Shannon), Haley Garver, Christopher Greer, Mitchell Garver, two great-grandchildren Scarlett and Spencer Corriher, two nieces, and the mother of his children, Sandy Wise.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 31, at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Wooldridge officiating, burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 10-11 AM at Whitley’s Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Kidney Foundation, The American Heart Association, or St Jude’s.
