Ruth Drye Billings

Obituary: Ruth Drye Billings, 87, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 22, 2012 following a period of declining health. She was born January 10, 1925 in Rowan County, NC a daughter of the late Jonah and Patty Melton Drye. In early life she worked at Cannon Mills and later was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday School for many years; as long as her health would permit her to do so.. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Billings, Sr., four sisters, four brothers and one great grandchild. She is survived by one son, Robert D. Billings, Jr.(Debbie) , two daughters, Joan B. Phillips (Berd) and Jeanne B. Smith (Ray) all of Kannapolis. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Billy Carey and Rev. Joseph Harding. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at their respective residences. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethel Wesleyan Church, 4036 Old Salisbury-Concord Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
