Ruth Billups

Obituary: Margaret Ruth Law Billups, 91, departed peacefully toward her heavenly mansion at the home of her daughter, Mona Ruth Vick, in Lusby, MD on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. A long-time resident of Concord, NC, Ruth was born on December 23, 1924 in Parkersburg, WV to Dennis Ison and Margaret (Maust) Law, and was raised in Romney, WV. Growing up, she was active in 4-H, and achieved a lifelong membership status. Ruth graduated from Berea College in Berea, KY. She worked for the McPhail, Bray and Murphy Insurance Company in Charlotte, NC for several years, and spent the last 20 years of her working career as a Vocational Home Economics teacher at the Stonewall Jackson School in Concord, NC. Ruth's life was anchored in her family and her church. She was a member of Forest Hill United Methodist Church in Concord, NC, where she was active as a choir member, Sunday school teacher and held a life member status with the United Methodist Women. She is preceded in death by her brother, James Newton Law, son-in-law Norman M. Barbour and grandchildren Jonathan and Joshua Barbour, and is survived by her sister Jo Anne Maulden (C. L.) of Concord, NC, her daughter Mona Ruth Vick (Rudy) of Lusby, MD, her sons, William D. Billups of Lake Forest, CA and James R. Billups (Anita) of High Point, NC, daughter-in-law, Ponza Jackson of Mooresville, NC and grandchildren Meredith Lloyd (Michael Burgess), Whitney Canter (Ben), Matthew Barbour (Steve Padilla), Daniel Barbour (Stacy Roy), Ashleigh Dennis (Ben), Megan Billups, Joseph Billups (Sarah) and Jamie "Wynnie" Billups, eight great-grandchildren and Jo and Cy Maulden's children Dennis, David (Beverly) and Margaret Anne (Georgia Robertson). A Celebration of Life service will be held at Forest Hill United Methodist Church in Concord, NC at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016, with a visitation in the fellowship hall immediately after. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "Good Samaritan Fund" at Forest Hill United Methodist Church, 265 Union Street NW, Concord, NC 28025.
