Ruth Godfrey Brantley

Obituary: Ruth Godfrey Brantley, age 94, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC. She was born October 6, 1918 in Union County, NC, the daughter of the late Silas Leroy Godfrey and Sarah Venetta McWhorter Godfrey. Ruth was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant 1 & Plant 10, for over 60 years until her retirement. She was an active member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, NC. In earlier years she enjoyed playing golf with her husband together at every opportunity. She also had a love for gardening and going to the coast to do some fishing. She and her late husband had lived about thirty years of their lives at their place at High Rock Lake. During that time they attended St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where she was active with the senior citizens. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Brantley who passed away on March 19, 1998; and six siblings. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Dr. Richard Graf. A graveside service will be held earlier that day at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove, NC. The family will also receive friends at the church from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Saturday prior to the memorial service. Survivors include one son, Allen W. Brantley & wife, Becky of Kannapolis, NC; a daughter, Karen B. Rowland of Kannapolis, NC; four grandchildren, Amy Brantley of Hendersonville, NC; Scott Brantley of Mt. Pleasant, NC; Kim White of Kannapolis, NC; and Derek Rowland of Rock Hill, SC; six great-grandchildren; one brother, James Luke Godfrey of Kannapolis, NC, and one sister, Rosemary Godfrey of Kannapolis, NC. Memorials may be made to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, in care of the building fund, 101 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
