Ruth Ketner Caldwell

Obituary: Ruth Ketner Caldwell, died on Monday May 19, 2014 at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, Salisbury, NC surrounded by a loving family. Funeral services will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel in Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. James Cook on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am-12:00 pm Saturday prior to the service. Ruth was born on September 19, 1921 in Salisbury, NC to Charlie and Mary Lee Troutman Ketner. She graduated from Boyden High School. She worked at Woolworth's Dime Store in Kannapolis for many years, and was also employed by Cannon Mills, Co. in Kannapolis. She was a member of the 2nd Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis. She was actively involved in activities of her children throughout their lives including PTA and Grade Parenting. She was also a terrific "Sports Mom" as she seldom missed a sporting event involving one of her children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jackdale Caldwell; a brother, Roy Ketner, a sister, Cleo Glenn, and a son-in-law, Dr. Charles Olsen. She is survived by sisters, Myrtle Waddell of Sanford, NC; Daisy Williams of Kannapolis, NC; and Mildred Karriker (Grady), of Greenville, NC; as well as brother, Lloyd Ketner (Betty) of Kannapolis. She is also survived by her five children, Linda Olsen, of Searcy, Arkansas; Richard Caldwell (Kay) of Augusta, Georgia; David Caldwell (Dari) of Concord, NC; Scott Caldwell (Debbie) of Concord, NC, and Gayle Emery (Kevin) of Kannapolis, NC; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to recognize the special care she received from the staff of Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care and especially from the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in care of the Novant Rowan Medical Center Foundation, 612 Mocksville Avenue, Salisbury, NC 28144.
