Ruth Ellen Livingston Holbrooks

Obituary: Ruth Ellen Livingston Holbrooks, age 83, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC. She was born August 20, 1929 in Norwood, NC, the daughter of the late Charles Oscar Livingston and Mary Alice Coble Livingston. She was a graduate of Landis High School where she had played basketball. In earlier years Ruth was employed with the former American Credit Company, Kannapolis, NC for over ten years. Later, she worked for Cabarrus County Schools where she worked in the payroll department until her retirement. Ruth was a member of the former Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC where she had served as a Cub Scout den mother. She is fondly remembered by her family for her love of sewing, spending time with her family, and was an avid N.C. State Wolfpack fan. In the past few years she became involved in the creation of the recently formed Greenlawn Private Cemetery Inc. in China Grove where she had family members buried. She also loved traveling, activities with friends, and visiting the mountains. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Hobrooks; and one sister, Mary Neil Livingston Bost. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Second Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Lou Pfeiffer. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church prior to the service. The family will be at her home, 409 Janie Street, Kannapolis, the remainder of the time. Survivors include her three sons, Mike L. Holbrooks & wife, Wylia of Brookneal, VA; Gary W. Holbrooks & wife, Marie of New Hill, NC; and Steve R. Holbrooks & wife, Henrietta of Apex, NC; grandchildren, Sarah Holbrooks, Tyler Holbrooks, Adam Holbrooks, David Holbrooks, Bryan Holbrooks, Michaela Holbrooks, and Maura Holbrooks; one sister, Olema Kistler of Mooresville, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
