Obituary: Ruth Daughtry Melton, age 83, of Kannapolis went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, while surrounded by her children and family at CMC-NE in Concord on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 14 at Kannapolis West A Church of God with Rev. Sam Crisp and Rev. Greg Sloop officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, September 13 at Whitley's Funeral Home Ruth was born April 30, 1927 in Lasker, NC, the daughter of the late John Leonard Daughtry and the late Annie Brown Daughtry. She moved to this area with her family in the early "60's. She was a long time member of Kannapolis West A Church of God. Ruth loved to read her Bible and she loved her children, grandchildren, her great-granddaughter and sister. She blessed everyone she met with her gracious countenance. Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. Melton in 2001 and her 7 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Alva (Jeff) of Cabarrus Co. and her son, Randy Melton (Angela) of Kannapolis, her grandchildren; Lisa Miller, Justin Phillips and Nathaniel Phillips, great-granddaughter, Megan Miller. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Margaret Jenkins of Norfolk, VA. Visitation: 5-7:00 P.M. Monday, Sep. 13th at Whitley's Funeral Home.
