Ruth Russell Poston

Obituary: Ruth Russell Poston, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at her home after one month of declining health. She was born November 30, 1921 in Rowan County, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Martin Luther Russell and Lula Belle Bass Russell. She was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One for forty years until her retirement. She had also worked at Troutman's Barbecue in Kannapolis for five years. Ruth loved dancing, playing cards, and playing dice. Her family fondly remembers her love for her family and playing a game called "Skipbo." She also like eating sweets at night like cookies. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, David E. Poston, Sr. in 1993; three brothers, Lloyd, Eugene, and Willis Russell; and three sisters, Florence Northam, Helen Wilhelm, and Stella Greenway. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 2, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Dr. James Strickland. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her three children, David E. Poston, Jr. and Deborah Rapavi, both of Kannapolis, NC; and Patricia Dianne (Neil) Gonyer of Faith, NC; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Audrey Herrin of Mt.
