Obituary: Ruth M. Sloop Thorneburg, 86, died on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, SC.Her death follows a period of declining health Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, NC with her nephew Dr. Greg Sloop Officiating. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday prior to graveside services Mrs. Thorneburg was born in Cabarrus County, NC on October 16, 1924, a daughter of the late Waldo J. and Bessie Morgan Sloop.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband J.C. Thorneburg on August 24, 2004.She retired from Terry Products, where she was a machine operator and had formerly been employed by Cannon Mills.She was a member of Murrells Inlet Church of God and has resided in the Surfside Beach area since 1981 She is survived by a son, Charles "Mike" Thorneburg and a daughter, Vivian E. Thorneburg of Surfside Beach, SC., a son John C. Thorneburg of Salisbury, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 6 brothers and 5 sisters.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 2:30 p.m., Saturday May 28, 2011 Graveside service at Carolina Mem. Park..

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
