Sadie "Rebecca" Canupp Gainey

Obituary: Sadie Rebecca Canupp Gainey, age 89, of Kannapolis was a special angel called home by her Lord on Sunday, September 2, 2012 while at Big Elm Nursing Center, after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday September 6 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Upright officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Thursday at other times the family will be at 23 Carolina Ave in Concord. Rebecca was born August 2, 1923 in Iredell Co., a daughter of the late Charles F. and Mable Plyler Canupp. She was a lifelong area resident and worked 10 years for Cannon mills as a spooler in Plant #1, retiring in 1985. Rebecca also worked for Bitsy Bakery as head decorator, retiring after 17 years in 1987. In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Carson H. Gainey and 9 brothers and sisters and her grandson Billy Ray Richardson. She is survived by her son, Timothy Ray Gainey and her daughter, Judy G. Richardson, both of Kannapolis. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren.
