Obituary: Sadie Ree Smith Minton, 96, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Northeast Medical Center, Concord following a brief illness. She was born July 16, 1916 in Wilkes County, NC, a daughter of the late Lloyd Preston and Ellie Bobis Carrell Smith. She moved to Kannapolis from Brushy Mountain at age thirteen to help assist in the care of her nieces and nephews. In early life she was employed at China Grove Mill and later was employed at Cannon Mills for over 40 years, retiring in 1990. Sadie was a woman of love. She loved nature, working in her yard, the visiting of little children, opening her home where everyone was welcome, and having her life revolved around her family. She loved her community church; Ben Avenue Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jones Exodus Minton, a son, Ronald Minton, five brothers, Harlan, Lester, Clyde and Boyd Smith and Grady Stamey, eight sisters, Maudie Smith, Gertie Smith, Rochelle Wellman, Florence Snow, Dessie Helms, Bessie Smith, Ettel Smith and Lonna White. Survivors include two sons, Jerry W. Minton of Kannapolis, and Larry L. (Marie) Minton of Landis, three daughters, Jeanette Minton Morgan of Concord, Glenda Minton (Arnold) Morgan of Kannapolis and Betty Minton Morgan Long of Concord. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved also survive. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to her caregiver and friend, Cora Eldreth. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, March 17, 2013 at Ben Avenue Freewill Baptist Church, Kannapolis conducted by Rev. Don Draughn and Rev. James Pauley. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Wednesday, March 16, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 PM. At other times they will be at the residence.
