Obituary: Sammie McCoy Long, 94, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at CMC-NorthEast, Concord. Sammie was born September 25, 1922, in Kannapolis, to the late Sank and Jennie McCoy. She was a graduate of J. W. Cannon High School in Kannapolis where she played on the basketball team. For the next thirty years, Sammie worked in Account Receivables and Tabulating at the former Cannon Mills Company. Sammie's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family especially her three children; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also loved watching her beloved Tarheels play hoops, summer trips to Topsail Beach, working with her hands making ski sweaters and afghans, having lunch dates with her friends at Lunch Plus, and simply hanging out on her back porch. Sammie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, where she participated in the Ruth Kale Sunday School class where she could share the love of her Lord. In addition to her parents, Sammie was preceded in death by her daughter, Jo Long Thompson; a grandson, Brad Thompson; her sister, Dorothy McCoy Critz; brother Charles McCoy; and husband Luke Long. She is survived by; son, Kim (Kim) Long; grandsons, Matthew and Joseph of Harrisburg; son, Sam Long; grandson, Bryan of Durham; granddaughter, Laura (Eric) Glader; great-grandson, Nils; and great-granddaughter, Grace of Menlo Park, Calif. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:30 PM, Friday, March. 31, at Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, officiated by Dr. Sam Moore and Rev. Kirk Tutterow. The family will receive friends, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM Friday, at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 416 E.
