Obituary: Concord, NC- Sandy O'Daniel, age 93, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Universal Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Concord, NC after a period of declining health. He was born August 7, 1923 in Gaston County, NC, the son of the late John Henry O'Daniel and Annie Wooten O'Daniel. Sandy was employed as a supervisor with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Sewing Room for forty years until his retirement. He also worked at the same time as a sign painter for many years to the community. He was a very active member of Centerview Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he served as a former deacon, sang in the choir, pastor search committee, and active in various phases of church activities. Sandy was proud to be an active member of the Gideons International as well as being a mason with Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge # 626. He was also proud of serving in the military with the U.S. Army during World War II where he was part of the 425th Military Police Escort Guard. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Centerview Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Willie Rash. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial park, Kannapolis, NC with military rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 PM Thursday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Margaret Moon O'Daniel; his son, Byron S. O'Daniel & wife, Judy of Kannapolis, NC; his daughter, Annice O'Daniel of Kannapolis, NC; his granddaughter, Kara Long & husband, Ricky; two great-grandchildren, Bailey Long and Graham Long; and his sister, Betty O. Honbarrier of Kannapolis, NC. Memorials may be made to Centerview Baptist Church, 415 Walter Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
