Sara Wellman Hamrick

Obituary: Sara Wellman Hamrick, age 93, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital, Huntersville, NC. She was born October 11, 1918 in Pamlico County, NC, the daughter of the late Rev. Henry Marvin Wellman and Winnie Bertie Wilson Wellman. Her family had lived in many places where her father pastored with his affiliation in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. She attended Stratford Junior College in Danville, VA as a music and piano major. She graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a business teaching major. Sara taught high school with over thirty years of service teaching business most of those years in the Kannapolis City Schools. She also taught business at Lenoir-Rhyne College and high school business in other N.C. communities: Belmont, Granite Quarry, Landis, and Ellenboro over her long career. She retired in 1981. A long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was active with the Exodus Sunday School Class, serving as its pianist and a class officer. Sara had other leadership positions within the church including teaching Sunday School and in the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed music having played the piano also for pleasure. She was a long term member of Alpha Delta Kappa, the teachers sorority, and participated in a bridge club. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Daniel N. Hamrick, who died July 7, 2008. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Judy White and Dr. Harold Bales. Burial will be private at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church after the memorial service. Survivors include one son, Dr. Daniel M. Hamrick & wife, Melissa of China Grove, NC; two daughters, Nancy Sinclair & husband, Roy of Huntersville, NC and Kay Hamrick of Chapel Hill, NC; one grandchild, Mckenzie Hamrick of Charlotte, NC.
