Sarah Lavinia Steele

Obituary: Sarah Lavinia Plyler Steele, 90, passed away, Wednesday morning, March 22, 2017 at Mt. Pleasant House, following a period of declining health. Born June 13, 1926 in Rowan County, Lavinia was a daughter of the late John Avery and Arsie Ann Swink Plyler. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, Hubert David Steele; a son, Ted Steele and 8 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Steele had retired from Cannon Mills and had been a member of Landis Baptist Church, where she had helped with the mission house and was a choir member. A loving mother and grandmother, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Family members include her sons, David Steele, Jerry Steele (Kathy) and Fred Steele (Sherry); her daughter-in-law, Becky Steele; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 25th from 1:00-2:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mrs. Steele's life will begin at 2:00 in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Dr. Johnny Presley. Mrs. Steele will be laid to rest beside her husband, at Carolina Memorial Park.
