Obituary: Sarah Frances Goodwin Weaver, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after a period of declining health. She was born January 24, 1925 in Mecklenburg County, NC, the daughter of the late William Lawrence Goodwin and Sarah Cathaleen Smith Goodwin. Sarah was a 1943 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School, UNCC where she received her B.S. & Masters degrees in counseling & education. Later, she attended Gardner-Webb University, Wake Forest University, and graduated from Hood Theological Seminary where she received a Masters of Divinity degree. Throughout the years Sarah worked in the Personnel Dept. at the former Cannon Mills Company for several years; then, later with the Cannon Memorial YMCA; J.W. Cannon Junior High School; and First Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. She was also the Minister of Pastoral Care at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC for several years. Later, she found time to be active in various other ministries including the Stephen Ministry; taught Disciple; and she established the Wednesday night service at Trinity. Sarah also taught the Bullock Sunday School Class and a member of the J.L. Smith Sunday school Class for many years. She is also remembered by many assisting in various Bible study classes and active in various circles. Sarah also enjoyed some hobbies like needlework and traveling to the Holy Lands, Italy, Egypt, Cuba, and California. When in California she married her granddaughter, Kristin and husband, Damien. She had a special loving bond for her special Yorkies, "Joy" & "Anya." In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by step-mother, Alpha Goodwin, two brothers & four sisters. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Kirk Tutterow. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 am Saturday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include her daughter, Jan Smetana (John) of Greenville, SC; her son, Les Weaver of Mooresville, NC; a daughter-in-law, Frances Weaver of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandchildren, Kristin Dominguez (Damien) of Livermore, CA and Josh Weaver (Amy) of Mooresville, NC; six great-grandchildren, Rivers, Skye, Valentino Dominguez of Livermore, CA; Grant, Lila Mae, and Austin Weaver of Mooresville, NC. A special thank you to her dear friend, Janice Hooks. One could not have had a more dear friend. Also, to her church family and to Kelly who provided a wonderful home for her "Yorkie Baby, Nala."
