Sharon Lowdermilk Derhodes

Obituary: Sharon Lowdermilk DeRhodes, 55 went home to be with the Lord on October 19, 2013. She passed away at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury NC, with her family by her side. Mrs. DeRhodes was born April 14, 1958 in Greensboro, NC. She was the daughter of Dorothy E. Lowdermilk and the late David Horace Lowdermilk. In addition to her mother, Mrs. DeRhodes is survived by her husband of 32 years, John Carey DeRhodes of China Grove; son, Brandon DeRhodes and his girlfriend Stacy Deal both of China Grove, NC; daughter Allison Flack and son-in-law Daniel Flack of Mebane, NC. Mrs. DeRhodes is also survived by her sister Teresa Adcock and her husband Scotty of Salisbury along with their three children - Andrew, Nicholas and Alexis. Mrs. DeRhodes is a graduate of East Rowan High School and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Rowan County for over twenty years. She was also the church secretary for 11 years at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. She was very involved in her church beyond her secretarial duties. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was involved in many other ministries of the church. Mrs. DeRhodes loved spending time with her family more than anything else. We loved to go on family vacations together and our favorite place to visit was Disney World (Cherry Grove Beach comes in a very close second). The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 9:00PM on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with a short grave-side service at West Lawn Memorial Park.
