Obituary: Sheila Leonard Barger, 74, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Carolinas Healthcare System Northeast Medical Center. Born September 16, 1941 in Concord, Sheila was a daughter of the late Clyde Wilson Leonard and Hazel Byrd Leonard. A graduate of AL Brown High School, she had retired after more than 40 years of loyal service from the Independent Tribune. Mrs. Barger was a long time, faithful and active member of Lutheran Chapel Church. She enjoyed solving jig-saw puzzles, and earlier in life was an avid bowler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sherran Armstrong and a special friend, Terry Christopher. Family members left to cherish her memory include her son Clyde "Len" Barger; her nephews Richard Armstrong, Jr and Darrell Armstrong and many friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, December 4, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Sheila's life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Lutheran Chapel Church, conducted by the Rev. William V. Connelly, pastor.
