Obituary: Sheila Church Pendleton, age 66, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after four months of declining health. She was born January 1, 1946 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Thomas Sidney Church and Bessie Benfield Church. Sheila was a 1964 graduate of South Rowan High School. Sheila was employed with various medical groups in the area processing their insurance claims for many years. She trained to get her certified nursing assistant credentials in order to care for her son. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Concord, NC. She is fondly remembered as a strong woman of faith which encouraged many others around her on how to live life. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother, Bill Sidney Church. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Concord, NC officiated by Rev. Debbie Frye and Rev. David Keck. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, May 7, 2012 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, John Pendleton; a daughter, Jodie Hott & husband, Jon Todd of Kannapolis, NC; a son, John Thomas Pendleton of the home; two granddaughters, Bryana and Savannah Hott; and a special friend, Shirley Miller of Kannapolis, NC who helped in her care during this difficult time. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Robert Levy and staff; to Dr. Wendall Naumann and the entire staff of the Blumenthal Cancer Center who gave their best efforts to assist Sheila during her illness. The family would also like to express their gratitude and thanks to all of the friends and family who gave of their time to sit and assist with her care.
