Sherry Marcelle (Patterson) Chesnut

Sherry Marcelle Patterson Chesnut, 75, of China Grove, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Sherry was born on September 4, 1947 in Cabarrus County, NC. She was the loving daughter of the late Gaynelle Parker Knowles and Jimmy Knowles, and Clifton “Pat” Patterson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Osborne.

Sherry had a passion for teaching children. During her career in education, she was a preschool director for the YMCA and was a teacher assistant in the Cabarrus County School System. She was a faithful Christian and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved shopping, catering, and collecting recipes. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 57 years, Raymond S. Chesnut Jr.; three daughters, Angela (Randy) Brown, Amy Kirk, and Rebecca (Jason) Page; son, R. Bradley Chesnut; nine grandchildren, Trilby Kirk, Reagan Page, Maverick Page, Jagger Kirk, Emerie Page, Georgianna Brown, Tyler Brown, Ryker Page, and Ozell Brown, and a brother, Steve (Patricia) Patterson.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Whitley’s Funeral Home with Rev. William Van Wieren III officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park.
