Sherry Smith

Obituary: Sherry Watkins Smith, 72, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House, Newport, NC following a period of declining health. Sherry was born December 2, 1946 in Cabarrus County, NC the daughter of Boyce and Daisy Watkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Max Smith, her daughter-in-law, Dee Smith and her parents. Sherry was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and UNC-Charlotte where she received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Kannapolis City, Henderson County, Haywood County, and Franklin County Schools. She loved working with children and believed all children need and deserve love and respect. Being a devoted minister's wife, she was always ready and willing to serve alongside her husband. She was active with the music programs as a pianist and organist. She was also a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Sherry was also an avid sports fan, following the career of the late Dale Earnhardt, the Carolina Panthers and the N.Y. Yankees. She loved cooking for her family as much as they enjoyed her food. Family members left to cherish her memory are three sons; Phil Smith of Swansboro, Kenny and wife Brandy of Knoxville, Tn. and Kevin and wife Dana of Kingsport , Tn. She is also survived by two grandchildren; Brock of Swansboro and Kierstin of Knoxville, Tn. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church conducted by Rev. R.J. (Beaver) Hammond and Rev. Darrell Coble. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M.
