Shirley Pope Haynes

Obituary: Concord, NC- Shirley Pope Haynes, age 81, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 at St. Andrews Living Center, Concord, NC. She was born on June 4, 1935 in Union County, NC, the daughter of the late James Benjamin Pope and Jessie Mae Bryant Pope. Shirley was baptized on June 3, 1945. On March 24, 1956 she married Guy Haynes. After he served in the U.S. Army they returned to Concord and started a family. Shirley loved her Lord and Savior, her family, and her church. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, and a proud grandmother. She also loved helping others. Her favorite pastimes included time at the lake, church gatherings, especially the Tuesday morning breakfast brunch; eating chicken sandwiches, cake, and cookies; and anything "grandchildren" including hugs, hours of kiddie pools and bubble blowing when they were young, and proudly watching them grow up. She beamed at family gatherings and anytime grandchildren were around. In addition to her parents Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Guy; and two sisters, Ercel Hurlocker and Jean Bollinger. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, August 12, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Willie Rash. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her daughter, Gigi Sholar (Jeff) of Marshville, NC; sons, Tony Haynes (Kathy) of Knoxville, TN, Ron Haynes (Wendy) of Jacksonville, FL; and Tod Haynes (Anita) of Concord, NC; and grandchildren, Madison, Hallie, and Bailee Sholar, Ben and Emily Haynes, and Gracie Haynes. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the compassionate caregiver family at St. Andrews Living Center and to Community Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Centerview Baptist Church, 415 Walter Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or St. Andrews Living Center, Activity Fund, 246 Cabarrus Avenue, West, Concord, NC 28025.
