Shirley Barbara Lawrence

Obituary: Shirley Barbara Lawrence, 84, of Kannapolis, formerly of Charlotte, passed away on February 19, 2012. She was born in Boston, MA on March 24, 1927 and educated in the Newton, MA public school system. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and French from Pennsylvania College for Women in 1948. Prior to her retirement in 1981, she was employed by The Board of Underwriters of New York and by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. During her retirement years, she was a Girl Scout leader with the Hornets' Nest Girl Scout Council, was a docent at the Charlotte History Museum's Hezekiah Alexander House, and was a volunteer at Crisis Assistance Ministry, Shepherd's Center East, and Albemarle Road Elementary School. She was a member of the J.L. Smith Sunday school class at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kannapolis and a member of Wright G. Campbell No. 181 Order of the Eastern Star in Concord. She is survived by her son, William Grasso; her daughter, Andrea Buchanan and her husband, William Buchanan; and one grandson. A memorial service, conducted by Rev. Judy White and Rev. Dr. Harold Bales will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, February 26 in the sanctuary at Trinity United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 416 E. 1st Street, Kannapolis, N.C. 28083

Service: 2 P.M., Sunday, Feb. 26th at Trinity U. Meth. Church.
