Sidney Lowell Doby

Obituary: Sidney Lowell Doby, 85, of Concord passed away on June 15, 2017 at the VA Hospital-Liberty Lane Hospice House. He was born August 3, 1931 in Stanly County, a son of the late Henry Calvin Doby and Bertha Lowder Doby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Tucker Doby in 2013. Sidney, a veteran of the Vietnam War, retired as a Master Sergeant from the US Air Force after 21 years of service and later worked at Fiber Industries/Celanese. He was a member and faithful servant of Centerview Baptist Church. A loving husband of 57 years, Sidney valued time with his family and enjoyed sharing a round of golf with friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services officiated by Rev. Mary Hatley will be held at 1:00 PM at Whitley's. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Massingale of Tuckaseegee, North Carolina, two sons, David Sidney Doby and wife, Kathy of Algonquin, Illinois., Douglas Allen Doby and wife, Julie of Concord, grandchildren, Ashlyn and Caroline Doby, Regina Lettner, Heather Queen, Rachel, Robert, Sydney and Daniel Doby, great grandchildren, Daisy, Rylee and Carson Queen and Tucker Doby, two sisters, Laura Frazier of Winston-Salem and Margaret Cooper of Flint, Michigan. The family wishes to thank the staff of Morningside of Concord, and the VA Medical Center (Southport Community and Liberty Lane Hospice House) for their tireless effort and loving care.
