Sophia Turnmire Kelley

Obituary: Sophia Elizabeth Turnmire Kelley, age 75, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at her home while surrounded by her family. Her funeral service will be held 11:00am Tuesday, March 29 at Whitley's Chapel with Rev. Walter Turnmire officiating. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell. Family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30pm Monday, March 28 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Sophia was born September 3, 1940 in Ashe County, a daughter of the late Dewey F. and Della Ring Turnmire. Sophia was educated in Ashe County schools. She was a longtime Kannapolis resident and of the Baptist faith. Sophia was a homemaker for her family and later worked as a nurse's aide and supervisor at Kannapolis Village. She took pride in her home and her family. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Sophia was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Turnmire and her brother, Riley Turnmire. She is survived by her sons, Gary Kelley (Carol) of China Grove, Bradley Kelley of Kannapolis, Brian Kelley (Patricia Barkley) of Kannapolis, and her daughters, Mechelle Rogers (Tannas) of Kannapolis, and Bridget Kelley (David Harris) of Kannapolis. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three brothers, Melvin, Walter and Franky Turnmire. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
