Spencer Lee Sam Walter

Obituary: Spencer Lee (Sam) Walter, age 75, of Kannapolis died Friday, April 2, 2010 at CMC-Mercy Specialty Hospital in Charlotte after an illness of 5 months. Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Monday, April 5 at New Hope Lutheran church in Kannapolis with Pastor Kim E. Trabold officiating, burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at the church prior to the funeral service, at other times the family will be at the home of Kenny and Julie Walter, 1307 Central Dr. in Kannapolis. Spencer was born January 18, 1935 in Cabarrus Co., the son of the late York Odell Walter and the late Eunice Kluttz Walter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Brown Walter. Spencer was a life long area resident. He was a member of the Class of 1953 Winecoff High School. Spencer was a Charter member of New Hope Lutheran Church. He worked for many years at Celanese Industries in Salisbury and then for Pillowtex until he retired in 1997. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joan Sloop Walter and son Richard S. Walter, of the family home, his son, Kenneth B. Walter(wife, Julie),his daughter, Charlotte W. McAllister(husband, Allen) all of Kannapolis. Grandchildren include; Kenneth Walter, Jr. of Boone, Corey McAllister, Melissa McAllister and step-grandson Danny McAllister, all of Kannapolis. He is also survived by his brothers, William M. Walter (Sibbie) and Harold A. Walter (Patricia), both of Rockwell and David A. Walter of Kannapolis and one niece and one nephew.
